Black beans are common in Latin- and Carribbean-inspired dishes and hold up well when cooked or reheated. They are excellent in warm or cold salads, soups, sides, mashed into dips, made into patties, and so much more. Cooking Instructions
Add 1 cup beans to a pot and cover with cold water. Soak for 6-8 hours. (Quick soak method: Bring to a boil, cover, remove from heat, let sit for 1-2 hours.) Drain and cover with fresh water or stock by 1 inch. If desired, add aromatics such as bacon, ham/bones, garlic, onion, bay leaf, spices, etc. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer to desired doneness, 1-3 hours. Add water as needed during cooking to keep beans covered. Add salt or acidic ingredients 10-15 minutes before desired doneness. Makes about 3 cups.Storage
Store in an airtight container in a dark, cool, dry place for up to 24 months. Cooked beans can be stored for 1 week in the refrigerator or frozen for up to 6 months.Available in
